Our Mine Technical Services team currently has an opportunity for a Mine Project Engineer to join the Veladero team.
The Mine Project Engineer will, under general supervision, support all facets of mine development and support including, but not limited to, design, audits, project supervision, optimization, and maintenance routines for haul roads and site access roads, project works associated with mine development, and infrastructure setup with associated earthworks.
As a member of the Technical Services team, the successful candidate will report to the Chief Engineer Short-Term Planning.
The candidate will have a demonstrated record of being proactive and delivering quality work on-time.
Essential Functions :
Create and maintain standards for road design and construction, including details on road base, capping, etc., based on industry best practices and site conditions.
Continuously audit all Veladero roads including site-access roads for compliance to standards including surface condition, drainage, berm height, and running width.
Develop executable designs and plans to ensure all roads comply with site standards, focusing on safety and conditions.
Assist in developing the weekly mine services plan considering priorities as well as regular audits of roads.
Prepare and submit detailed design packages for all road works to be included in mine services plan.
Coordinate in-field activities with Mine Support team to support management of equipment and available resources, implementing all relevant tasks.
Plan and liase with the Mine Support team to execute activities such as crushing of road base and / or capping, audit stockpiles of required material in strategic locations.
Actively seek optimization opportunities to increase safety, productivity, or reduce cycle times on haul roads.
Develop access design and strategy for cutback pioneering works as well as delivery milestones.
Coordinate with mine Geotechnical team where required, particularly for cuts and fills.
Coordinate with Environmental and Permitting teams where required, particularly for areas of impact as well as run-off management.
Carry out all tasks independently or under limited supervision.
Perform other duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline, and at least five (5) years related experience in road design engineering and construction.
Advanced oral and written skills in Spanish, English is advantageous.
Advanced proficiency in CAD-based softwares, preferably Civil 3D.
Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Advanced knowledge of international principles of best practices for road design and maintenance.
Advanced experience in scheduling and project management.
Strong analytical skills and highly detail-oriented.
Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others.
Experience working at altitude >
4000m would be advantageous.
Ability to work in a team environment with mine engineering and mine support personnel.
Ability to work in and adapt to a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.
Valid driver’s license mandatory.
