Background : IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDBG), is a multilateral organization based in Washington, D.

C., that is committed to the development of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) through the private sector.

As part of its mission, IDB Invest supports the private sector and state-owned enterprises through financing in the form of loans, guarantees, and equity investments.

IDB Invest also partners with clients to provide advisory services.

The Program : Crea tu Futuro (http : / / / crea) is a rotation program designed for graduate students who wish to gain exposure to the distinctive business carried out by a private sector-

oriented multilateral development organization and who wish to contribute to the development of LAC.

IDB Invest is committed to promote leadership development and career advancement of the next generation of young professionals.

The Program provides the participants with a distinct opportunity to exploit their potential and explore their prospects through a broad, yet in-

depth, exposure to the business of IDB Invest, and serves as a unique platform for future career opportunities within IDB Invest and / or in the job market after completion of the Program.

The Program consists of two rotations of approximately 18 months each, for a total program duration of 36 months. The first rotation will be in an already predetermined division within the Investment Operations Department (INO) of IDB Invest either in Washington DC, or in one of IDB Invest’s 26 country offices in LAC.

The second rotation will be in another division within INO, another department of IDB Invest such as Risk or Finance, or in the public sector of the IDB Group.

The second rotation’s division and post of duty will be determined close to the completion of the first rotation based on business needs.

Business Areas : INO is responsible for generating a portfolio of high quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant development impact.

The business cycle goes from the identification, selection, origination and execution of investment transactions (i.e. loans, guarantees, equity and quasi-

equity) to their monitoring in the following segments :

  • Infrastructure & Energy : Energy, Transport, Water & Sanitation and Social Infrastructure (Health and Education).
  • Corporates : Agribusiness, TMT (Telecoms, Media and Technology), Tourism and Manufacture.
  • Financial Institutions : Banks, Financial Inclusion and Investment Funds.
  • Financial Products & Services : Capital Markets Solutions, Trade & Supply Chain Finance, Resource Mobilization and Equity Instruments.
  • Advisory Services : Climate Change, Blended Finance, Gender and Public Private Partnerships.
  • What you’ll do :

  • Assist with project feasibility assessments of transactions. This entails conducting research relative to prospective transaction sponsors, gathering and developing relevant market and financial data, and assisting with the preparation of operations summaries and preliminary desk evaluations of potential transactions.
  • Review and analyze financial statements and develop and / or adapt computer financial models, including financial projection models, to evaluate financial information and support management decision-making.
  • Support project teams throughout the transaction approval process by various levels of the IDB Invest Management and its Board of Directors, in accordance with established procedures, including coordination with the credit risk management, environmental and social safeguards, legal, mobilization and other internal units.
  • May participate in due diligence missions to gather necessary technical, legal, economic, financial information as assigned to assess the merits of potential lending or equity investment projects.
  • Participate in the negotiation of transaction contracts and related legal documents in coordination with transaction teams.
  • Assist team leaders with first disbursements of closed transactions, when applicable.
  • Prepare project-related presentations, reports, spreadsheets, memos, among others, as needed.
  • Skill's you'll need :

  • Education : Graduate degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or International Relations.
  • Experience : A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience at a financial institution, corporation, investment fund, multilateral development institution or other private sector entity is required.
  • Languages : Proficiency in Spanish and English is required. Working knowledge of Portuguese and / or French will be considered a plus.
  • Core and Technical Competencies :

  • Technical Expertise : Ability to develop, analyze and articulate project issues, diagnose problems and propose reliable solutions.
  • Ability to perform fully professional level analysis on financial and credit issues. Thorough understanding of project, structured and corporate finance transactions and international finance documentation.

    Ability to integrate finance and development conceptual frameworks.

  • Teamwork : Demonstrated ability to contribute to multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams; willingness to help others by sharing knowledge;
  • commitment to work toward win / win solutions.

  • Initiative and Adaptability : Ability to act independently and resourcefully in responding to work demands, adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and change, as work is performed under limited supervision at most stages.
  • Communication : Ability to convey facts and ideas clearly and in an organized manner in writing and verbally. Listens to others’ points of view and is able to produce summarized reports.

  • The IDB Invest, pursuant to applicable policies, may contribute toward travel and moving expenses Visa and Work Permit : The IDB Invest, pursuant to applicable policies, may submit a visa request to the applicable immigration authorities;
  • however, the granting of the visa is at the discretion of the immigration authorities. Notwithstanding, it is the responsibility of the candidate to obtain the necessary visa or work permits required by the authorities of the country(ies) in which the services will be rendered to the IDB Invest.

    If a candidate cannot obtain a visa or work permit to render services to the IDB Invest the contractual offer will be rescinded Consanguinity : Pursuant to applicable IDB Invest regulations, candidates with relatives (including the fourth degree of consanguinity and the second degree of affinity, including spouse) working for the IDB Invest and the Bank as staff members, or Complementary Workforce or as contractors, will not be eligible to provide services for the IDB Invest.
