Our Team :

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Sr Specialist Engineer - Electric, Instrumentation, and Control Systems to join our Asset Management team based in Toronto .

This is a permanent position.

The Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Systems Sr Specialist Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical standards for Metallurgical and Mining assets in Vale s industrial facilities.

As part of the Industrial Asset Management team in Vale Brazil, this professional will work in collaboration with the operations and maintenance teams of Base Metals to assure the development and implementation of the technical standards.

The Senior Specialist Engineer also provides technical support to the operations in solving plant electrical, instrumentation and control system issues.

This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is eligible for flexible office consideration in accordance with company policy.

Key Responsibilities

Play a key role in development and implementation of technical standard for metallurgical and mining assets in collaboration with Base Metals Operations and Maintenance teams including :

  • Asset management, reliability tools, risk management practices (ISO 55001, IEC 31010, IEC 30600 series);
  • Engineering / projects, operation, and maintenance of industrial electrical, instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Electrical protection, including incident energy.
  • Safety in electrical activities.
  • Control systems (SCADA, DCS, hybrid), information systems (PIMS, MES, LIMS), cyber security.
  • Technical contracts management and partners interface management.
  • Provide technical advice and consultation in case of major incidents or accidents occurrences.
  • Lead / support investigation of process safety incidents across the Base Metals Business.
  • About You

  • 8 to 10 years of experience in a similar subject area
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Metallurgical Engineering
  • P. Eng. is required
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviours needed to perform this position :

  • Ability to take ownership of the work and possess strong work and business leadership skills (resource, planning & work prioritization management, results focused, etc.)
  • Ability to connect with a variety of partners including senior management, senior peer industry sector Operational Managers, sector industry engineers and other technical specialists and operational personnel at a senior level.
  • Proven sound written and verbal communication skills. Able to write clear and concise reports. Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills within operational and maintenance teams.
