Job Purpose

The Canoo IT Department is looking for a Director of IT - Design to Build who will work directly with the Manufacturing and IT Teams to assist in driving the technology needs that are critical to manufacturing key product lines on a global scale.

This will include understanding overall product and end design in heavy manufacturing including product viability, connected components, extracting data, and final build.

Expertise in building hardware and software to design a vehicle is essential to this role, including the development of technology objectives, vision, long-range and strategy plans, and identification of the organization's strengths and weaknesses.

You'll work in our Justin, TX office and collaborate with leaders across a wide range of functions including finance, operations, marketing, and HR.

You'll also have the opportunity to learn from many experts across several technical disciplines.


  • Drive IT systems to enable automobile production, operations, and manufacturing
  • Budget management, SOPs, KPIs, Data, Analytics, Continuous Improvement, and Quality
  • Development of strategy and long-term improvement plans for manufacturing sites to include automation
  • Develop and implement manufacturing goals and action plans in alignment with strategic initiatives and cascade clear expectations, accountabilities and reporting mechanisms into the manufacturing and production organization
  • Responsible for all materials management IT processes, including ordering, shipping, receiving, warehousing, inventory management and all material flow processes from raw to finished goods
  • Provide support for overall quality operations with a focus on compliance and continuous improvement
  • Leads a team of IT associates that are responsible for a portfolio of client relationships, related projects and overall technology point of contact for the senior business leaders
  • Execute and manage activities and initiatives aligned with our roadmap and overall business objectives. Accountable for managing any delivery related escalations
  • Required to have a broad-based view of IT activities and how they can help achieve the business goals
  • Develop roadmaps (with the business leaders and our Enterprise Architects) that integrate business and IT capabilities together in a way that aids stakeholders in visualizing future business outcomes and making better-informed investment decisions
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the business leadership for assigned functions that result in a high degree of alignment between IT and the business while also making it easy to do business with IT
  • Proactively develop and implement ideas to improve business outcomes using technology
  • Ensure employee engagement is maintained at high levels
  • Application Owner for a portion of the applications portfolio Education and Experience Profile
  • Required Experience

  • BA / BS degree or equivalent practical experience in IT
  • At least 10 years of experience leading and managing operations or programs focused on infrastructure
  • At least 5 years of management experience
  • Successful implementation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and / or processes
  • Experience with Oracle ERP
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement Practices
  • Knowledge of the supported domains (Manufacturing, R&D, Product Development, Product Management, and Direct Procurement)
  • Experience implementing best-in-class manufacturing processes through an organization
  • Proven track record collaborating effectively with IT support teams, ensuring clear and concise communication resulting in adherence to service level agreements
  • Strong self-starter with an ability to navigate successfully through ambiguity to provide recommendations on project direction
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional integration / relationships and operational execution
  • Intellectual agility the ability to learn and act on new information quickly and efficiently
  • Able to challenge the status quo
  • Strong communication as demonstrated through the presentation of strategy to different levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communications including content creation through various mediums
  • Preferred Experience

  • MS / MBA with 10+ years of work experience
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of automotive / technology development, manufacturing operations, and industrial dynamics
