Overview

The Network Specialist III role is responsible for the high level strategic design, implementation and support of the Amcor Americas Network working in collaboration with the Global Network Architects.

Lead the research and recommendation of emerging network technologies implemented within the Amcor Global Network that support business and security requirements.

This role leads internal medium and major projects and is a senior level Network position.

2. Job Dimensions

There are three major dimensions to this position :

  • Change management ability : Good communication and training skills. Ability to translate technical jargon into a user-friendly language.
  • Technical skills : experience with management of core server infrastructure services, storage,. Good understanding ofnetwork, Active Directory and collaboration.
  • Ability to handle critical issues in a timely manner.

  • Project management : past project management experiences that have demonstrated the ability to lead a small project from beginning to end in an autonomous way.
  • 3. Principal Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with Global Network Architects and regional teams to provide recommendations for strategic design of the Amcor Global Network Research, recommend and integrate Network LAN / WAN technologies in the Amcor Global Network Research, recommend and integrate Network Security Technologies in the Amcor Global Network Prepare and present recommendations to IT leadership team
  • Provide leadership, coaching & mentoring to global network peers, IT Operations teams and IT Service Desk
  • Ensure that all changes to the network / computing environment are reviewed and approved by appropriate management before resources are committed.
  • This includes scheduling reviews with management and appropriate personnel to review the effects on the business process.

  • Project management responsibilities for Global Network implementations. Develop project plans and utilize the team resources to complete the deliverables.
  • Provide project status reporting and follow all change control requirements.

  • Lead hardware obsolesce projects and network capacity planning. Provide input to budgeting process.
  • Demonstrate vendor relation skills to work with vendors on developing recommendations and providing network services. This includes collaborating with Infrastructure Service Delivery Lead role on new services and existing service escalations.
  • Lead the coordination / management of vendors who are contracted for services relating to the network environment. Including hardware, software and network providers.
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to self-direct training to keep current with technology advancements.
  • Excellent communications skills - both oral and written - to successfully interact with project teams from various departments / business units.
  • Excellent problem solving based on experience with the technology
  • Advance degree of competency in technical areas : Networking Protocols / Services BGP, OSPF, IPSec, GRE, HSRP / VRRP, NAT / PAT, SNMP, MPLS, VPLS, QoS, Multicast, STP, 10GigE, GigE, 10 / 100 Ethernet, T1, DS3, GTM, LTM, DNS, Application Firewalls
  • Strategic design and implementation of network solutions in all areas of the Amcor Global Network. LAN, WAN, WLAN, Security-Firewall and Datacenter.
  • Monitoring security, performance and availability of network architecture. Monitor software releases to ensure all system vulnerabilities are remediated.
  • Identify and communicate network and security risks. Provide plan for remediation.
  • Provide mentoring / guidance to other members of the IT Network Team.
  • Lead Global Network meetings with international IT resources. Provide training and knowledge transfers.
  • 4. Major challenges & complexities

  • The ability to prioritize requests and manage time efficiently can be challenging. Multi-tasking is an everyday occurrence and requires total commitment to the tasks at hand.
  • Must be flexible and willing to take the extra step to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Customer service excellence is a key element of this position and so it is imperative that professionalism is always maintained, and standards are not compromised

  • 6. Qualifications / Requirements

    6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience / studies
  • 7 10 years experience in a technical IT Environment
  • CCDP or CCNP certifications
  • On-call based on a rotating 24x7 schedule
  • ITIL certificate is a plus
  • 6.2 Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Behaviours

  • Good knowledge of infrastructure subjects, technological trends and innovation
  • Solid knowledge of Cisco technlologies, VoIP, firewalls and WiFi
  • Good understanding of systems monitoring and experience in setting up monitoring tools
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high throughput business environment
  • Excellent organization skills; able to plan, organize and prioritize workload
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels in English
  • Willingness to learn and be adaptable to the changing requirements of the job
