RESPONSIBILITIES

General : The Direct Support Professional directly responsible for the health and safety of the consumers at all times. They must be willing to work in a team atmosphere to provide a naturalistic setting while incorporating Active Treatment into the consumers' daily life, in conjunction with other residential staff and supervisors.

Specific : The Direct Support Professional shall :

  • Instruct, coach, and supervise consumers in the acquisition of daily living skills. These independence-building skills include but are not limited to : personal hygiene, community integration, money management, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff to ensure consistency and efficient follow through of the consumers' goals, and the goals of the program.
  • Report to and take direction from the Residential Manager who is assigned as your direct supervisor or their designee.
  • Satisfactorily complete mandated training and all updates in a timely manner as directed by their supervisor.
  • Satisfactorily complete an approved New York State Medication Administration course.
  • Must be van certified to transport residents as per Joshua House van certification process.
  • Maintain accurate records including but not limited to : medication records, progress notes, goal data, incident reports, and vehicle logs.
  • Perform cooking, shopping, housekeeping, and light maintenance duties as necessary and as requested.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as requested by Residential Manager.
  • Transport consumers in agency van to day program, medical appointments, recreation / leisure activities etc. as requested and necessary.
  • Provide an appropriate role-model for consumers in dress and demeanor.
  • Provide for confidentiality of the program at all times.
  • The ability to lift over 50 pounds.
  • Perform other work related duties as requested by the Residential Manager, Residential Services Director, or Executive Director.
  • Joshua House reserves the right to amend, modify or terminate portions of this job description at any time without prior knowledge or consent of the employee.

  • Ability to anticipate problems and / or problem solve
  • Qualifications :

  • High School diploma or GED. CNA, or similar experience working in Human Services or with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not necessary!
  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check as per New York State regulations.
