Counsel CCB Strategic Transactions, Card and Payments

The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co ( JPMC ) is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally conform to the Corporation's lines of business ( LOBs ) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis.
JPMorgan Chase is seeking talented candidates for a position as an Associate on JPMC’s Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) Strategic Transactions Legal Team but would also, as needed, support projects on the Card Services Regulatory Legal Team and Payments Legal Team that each report to the General Counsel for Card Services, Strategic Transactions and Payments Legal (CSP Legal).
The role will report to the Executive Director and Assistant General Counsel of the Strategic Transactions Legal Team.
Job Responsibilities :
Monitoring global antitrust and anticompetitive developments impacting CCB and preparing a periodic comprehensive and concise digest of key news, analysis, and commentary for Firm-wide senior management and immediately escalating major items for discussion with stakeholders.
Conduct research on special antitrust and anticompetitive projects, and other special projects as needed.
Assisting with drafting and updating of various model forms and sample provisions maintained by the Strategic Transactions Legal team, such as co-brand agreements, digital wallet agreements, platform or product integration agreements, strategic alliance agreements, Ultimate Rewards agreements and FinTech agreements.
Assisting with reviewing, creating issues list and providing related contract support of NDAs, term sheets and various contracts supported by the Strategic Transactions Legal team.
Providing ongoing support and assistance to CSP Legal team, business clients, other legal teams and functional partners as to contract interpretation.
Issue-spotting, researching and appropriately escalating risks and concerns that may exist with any deal or project, including legal review of external partner pitch decks or legally sensitive senior management presentations.
Collaborating with other functional partners to ensure appropriate awareness and escalation of issues as they arise while being sensitive to confidentiality restrictions.
Providing ongoing support and assistance to CSP Legal team with respect to monitoring state and federal legal and regulatory developments impacting Card Services;
compiling, drafting and reviewing concise summaries of legal and regulatory developments for inclusion in the CCB Legal Flash and distributing the CCB Legal Flash to other Legal colleagues, Card senior leadership and corporate functions on a regular basis;
identifying and escalating legal issues presented by the review and approval of customer communications and documentation.
Required Skills :
Seeking bilingual candidates that are fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent English writing and oral communication skills.
Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
3-5 years of experience in legal practice.
Excellent legal research skills. Experience with Westlaw or similar services preferred.
A team player who can collaborate and communicate effectively with attorneys and other business and compliance professionals.
Strong analytical thinker who is detail-oriented, practical and skilled at issue spotting and problem solving.
Self-starter who is able to work independently, takes ownership of responsibilities and projects, is results-oriented and flexible.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex business environment and maintain communication with attorneys regarding project status and estimated completion timelines.
Competence with the suite of Microsoft Office products.
All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
Preferred Skills :
Experience or interest in consumer banking / lending, financial services regulation and / or financial services litigation.
Knowledge of the U.S. litigation process, U.S. state legislative and regulatory process.
Experience studying or working in a common law jurisdiction (Africa, UK, US, Australia)
Technological mindset and / or background is a plus
