About this role :

Lead Mine Operations & Mine and Asset Maintenance in Cerro Negro to ensure achievement of agreed performance targets aligned with Budget and Life of Mine planning in the safest and most cost efficient manner.

Organize and provide direction to all activities related to production operations in Cerro Negro (mine, maintenance, surface) in order to meet or exceed the operational goals.

Promote compliance with mine plans and equipment reliability plans to meet production, development and costs objectives in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

  • Organize and provide direction to all activities related to production operations in Cerro Negro (maintenance : mobile and fixed equipment for the mine, surface areas / underground and surface mine, maintenance : drill, blast, ground support, load, haul, raise-boring, water handling, management of contractors related to the operation, amongst others) in order to meet or exceed the goals.
  • Optimize planning and predictive maintenance systems in order to ensure availability of critical equipment for production processes.
  • Coordinate the implementation of equipment replacement plans.

  • Monitor and report operational performance indicators (production and costs) as compared with budgeted goals.
  • Produce Management reports on a monthly basis
  • Promote compliance with mine plans and equipment reliability plans.
  • Mine Operations Optimization and Continuous Improvement

  • Continue to implement Full Potential projects.
  • Produce over 265 Koz of gold at a CSC / GEO of $1,046 or better.
  • Meet consolidated EBITDA and consolidated free cash flow targets
  • Implement the improved Integrated Risk Management System.
  • Enhancements to capital expenditure governance.
  • Manage the capital program for the Mine Operations section

  • As an Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) manager for sustaining capital ensure :
  • Timeliness in Submission of AFEs.
  • Quality of Submitted AFEs.
  • Timeliness of capital spend.
  • As a Cost Center Manager with sustaining operational capital expenditure, ensure :
  • Sustaining capital expenditure will be within set target ranges, adjusted for changes in planning assumptions and decisions.
  • As an AFE Manager with a closed project ensure :
  • Prompt closing out of projects.
  • Project deliverables have been met.
  • Stakeholder Management and Engagement

  • Validate and sign off the mine plan prepared by Technical Services for the sustainability of operations in the medium and long term
  • Co-ordinate all operational activities with the Technical Services, Process Area and Projects.
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders on all planning and operational execution issues.
  • Liaise with the Training Department to confirm that all operational training requirements are developed and scheduled.
  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Department to align and confirm that Mine Operations and Maintenance meets established statutory standards in the operation of the mine.
  • Manage designated on-site contractors to provide safe and cost-effective services.
  • Oversee the coordination and implementation of reclamation exercises, in conjunction with key partners
  • Maintain ongoing communications with the Mining Authorities with respect to :
  • Individual statutory certifications.
  • Statutory requirements with respect to mining regulations (i.e. blasting, technical, safety, closure).
  • On-site statutory reportable accidents or incidents. (i.e. Fires, unplanned detonation, wall failures etc.).
  • Promote team work at all levels of the operation through communication, monitoring and revision of performance standards.
  • Actively promote the improvement of technical and managerial skills for direct reports.
  • Maintain operational continuity by means of a robust risk management system as well as relationships with stakeholders (with an effective and timely communication with all areas such as administration, finance, HR, legal, strategic affairs, supply chain, projects, corporate affairs, etc.).
  • Health and Safety Management

  • Confirm that Environmental and Social Responsibility policies and procedures in the Mine and Maintenance Operations area are being adhered to and utilize the safety data management system.
  • Lead by example showing Cerro Negro’s safety culture.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his / her supervision.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed.
  • Conduct periodic Critical Control verifications, Safety Interactions, safety meetings and inspections. Oversee quality of JHA and FRA in department.
  • Staff Management

  • Manage and lead all direct report by :
  • Building sufficient employee bench strength.
  • Conducting robust succession planning for the Mine Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Building team cohesion and collaboration and instilling culture aligned with Newmont values

    Your training, skills, & experience checklist Knowledge :

  • Bachelors’ Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering, or an equivalent qualification and satisfies the requirements of the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.
  • Experience :

  • 10 12 years’ experience in an underground mining environment, with a minimum 6 8 years’ experience in a management capacity.
  • Experience in mine maintenance roles desired.

  • Prior experience managing and administering CAPEX and OPEX budgets for a multinational organization.
  • Operational experience as a Mine Manager.

  • Position is in a remote location. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical Demands : While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit at a desk for extended periods, climb stairs, walk and stand.
  • Work Environment : The noise level in the field environment is minimal. Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces, extreme weather conditions.
  • Protective Equipment (PPE) : Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, goggles, high visible clothing, life jackets / vest, safety harness, ear plugs and dust mask according to working conditions.
  • Incumbent is expected to work a 8 by 6 day cycle; but required on some occasions, to work additional hours as may be needed for the business.
